Sustainability in Design

The customer asked for a proposal to furnish the ESA/ESTEC work towers. The sustainably used materials are offered with additional explanation and substantiation. The following sustainable materials were proposed in the design.

-Pressed paper: Used paper is then pressed into a 30mm thick table top.

-Rubberwood: Normally, a rubber tree is cut down and discarded as soon as there is no more rubber production. By cutting this tree after the production of rubber and then finger-welding it into sheet material, it can be used again in, for example, a bench as proposed by ESA.

-PETfelt: Plastic bottles are processed into a sheet material that is both soft and has an acoustic value. As a result, the plates have become multifunctional for ceilings or walls.
